Current Mission:  SHIELD4KIDS – Lehigh Acres, our mission is , to provide a safe location at the assigned bus stops for children in Lehigh Acres.  The project started in the wake of a tragedy when in the spring of 2019, two girls from Lee County were hit by cars either at their bus stop or on their way to the bus stop – Layla Aiken of Cape Coral and Alana Tamplin of North Fort Myers.  This has been an ongoing issue for over 30 years across all of Lee County. The county lacks safe passage through busy streets due to a lack of street lighting and sidewalks. While our group is unable to provide street lights and sidewalks, we aim to work with our local city and county government bodies to drive change and promote a better infrastructure for our children in the community.  We are currently working on providing a temporary solution in the form of picnic tables or benches to local bus stops along with providing temporary lighting and beacons to alert drivers to bus stop locations. While this is a temporary solution for now, we hope to change things for future generations of children in the county. We are a local not for profit and are in search of sponsors and donors to aid us in our community projects revolving around safety for children in Lehigh Acres.

Future Vision:  The future vision for our initiative includes working with local governing bodies to both place permanent benches, lighting and sidewalks for children at bus stop locations or work with them to allow us the capability to place permanent benches and lighting ourselves with the aid of individuals, groups and companies in the area.  It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a community to keep them safe. While we are aware that local budgeting is an issue for the county wide projects, maybe you can aid us in realizing our goals by providing a sponsorship or donation to help make our city a safer place for our children. We would also like to expand on safety for children by creating educational programs offered in the schools, community and at events.  We would like to expand and offer a cadet program for children to explore ways they can help in keeping the community safe as well, shaping future leaders in our area to instill a sense of pride and duty to the community through service.
